Kim Min-Jae (28) is a doubt for the Real Madrid game. Bayern Munich defender Matthias der Licht (24) has a knee problem.
The Bavarians played Eintracht Frankfurt in a Bundesliga match on Sept. 27. At the start of the second half, Kim Min-Jae came on for Der Licht.
Munich head coach Thomas Tuchel (51) has been informed of the player’s condition. According to Munich’s official website, Tuchel said, “Matthias (der Licht) is feeling pain in his knee ligaments. Konrad Reimer (26) has a sprained ankle.” “Both players are in too much pain to continue playing. We’ll have to wait for the results of their medical examinations. We hope they will be back for the match against Real Madrid.”
Munich is favored to win the UEFA Champions League (UCL) in the 2023-2024 season. They were eliminated from the DFB Pokal and lost the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen.
The first leg could make or break the season. Munich will host Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Allianz Arena, and they’ll be going all-out.
Der Licht’s injury is a big blow for Munich. Tuchel has named Eric Dier (31) as his first-choice center back. If Der Licht fails to recover from his knee ligament injury, Tuchel will have to turn to other options.
If Der Licht is sidelined, Kim Min-Jae or Dayo Upamecano (26) will likely compete for the position. Kim has the edge. Against Frankfurt on Sept. 27, Kim played the second half in place of Der Licht. Upamecano has been ruled out. He is currently suspected to have an ankle injury.
Kim even got a start against Union Berlin on March 21, which was well-received by local media. After playing just 59 minutes, Kim was named to the Bundesliga’s Best 11 by 스포츠토토 Hooscore According to the media, Kim completed 98% of his passes (58/59), made two tackles, and won two balls against Berlin. His performance was so impressive that he earned a rating of 7.56 after playing just 59 minutes. Dyer, who played full time, had a rating of just 6.6.
He’s a monster defender who’s bounced back when given the chance. Against Frankfurt, he and Dyer worked well together. In the 45 minutes he played, Munich kept a clean sheet.
It will be interesting to see how Der Licht recovers and what Tuchel chooses to do. The match between Munich and Real Madrid is less than three days away.
