Obesity due to lack of self-management, habitual lateness to training, etc. can now be used as a legal reason for release from the club.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in favor of the club.
The parties in question are Spanish club Seville and defender Lloris Gnagnon.
In September 2021, Sevilla unilaterally terminated the contract with Gnagnon.
The reason is that the player has shown several instances of behavior unbecoming of professionalism and his physical condition has reached a point where he cannot be called a sports player. 안전놀이터
Accordingly, Gnagnon requested compensation of 4.6 million pounds (approximately 7.8 billion won) from the club through FIFA.
However, he could not go as far as the traveler wanted. Global sports media ‘The Athletic’ reported on the 19th (Korean time)
that “CAS sided with the Spanish club Sevilla.” The reason is that the club continuously gave warnings to the player.
‘The Athletic’ said, “In 2022, FIFA ruled that Gnagnon did not change even though Sevilla was concerned about the player’s physical condition and gave several warnings,” and CAS also acknowledged this point.
CAS also ruled that “it is a completely normal expectation for the club for a player to lose weight,” and “
the termination of Sevilla’s contract is legal because the player has been provided with support and warnings on several occasions to lose weight.”
According to the media, Gnagnon left French Ligue 1 Stade Rennes in the summer of 2018 and joined Sevilla.
The transfer fee at the time was 13.5 million pounds (about 19.6 billion won),
which shows that a lot of expectations were placed on the 22-year-old defender. He signed a five-year contract at Sevilla.
However, Gnagenon continued to cause problems due to negligent self-management and periodic lateness to training.
In the end, Seville asked Gnagnon to reduce his weight to at least 90 kg.
He even provided a personal trainer at the club level and tried to help him with his diet.
However, according to Sevilla, the Nagnon ignored these instructions, maintained his weight to the point of obesity and had difficulty training.
In the end, the club unilaterally terminated his contract when Nagnon showed no change despite being disciplined four times.
Sevilla released a club statement immediately after the ruling, saying, “The release of Lloris Gnagnon was ruled legal by CAS,” and “When the player returned to the club after COVID-19,
he was in a completely different physical condition than in the past. This is 4 “There was no change in the number of disciplinary actions, and even though we were given the opportunity to lose weight through collaboration with the team’s nutritionist and doctor, there was no room for improvement,” he said.
After leaving Sevilla, Gnagnon joined France’s Saint-Etienne, but was unable to play in any first-team games and was released in the summer of 2022.
He is still a free agent (FA).
