Ontario Regulators Pressure Illegal Sports Books

Posted on October 28, 2023October 28, 2023

It will soon be a year since Ontario legalized its online market for private gambling operators, and local regulators are considering taking further action against illegal operators. 바카라사이트 Recently, Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission released its annual report from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The report also includes data from a new subsidiary, iGaming Ontario.

The report also included iGO’s previously mentioned third-party casino and sportsbook brand market launched on April 4, 2022, under the jurisdiction of AGCO and iGO, which operates agreements with brands that have entered the market and reinvests about 20% of its profits in the province.

In the report, Dave Forestell, chairman of iGO’s board of directors, noted that regulators expect more iGaming operators to join the Ontario market in 2023, while also boosting the state’s economic benefits and revenues. He is confident that the organization will make investments made by protected and valuable legitimate operators by further cracking down on illegal operations.

He also reminds us that illegal operations do not share revenue with the state, are not under state jurisdiction, and do not belong to liability gambling, anti-money laundering and player protection protocols. But Mr Forrestel affirms that in 2023, the fight against illegal markets will be a major concern for regulators looking to improve the iGaming market.

iGO’s executive director, Mars Otton, said in a report that Ontario’s market has quickly transformed into one of the largest regulatory online betting jurisdictions. She added that the sector will continue to provide real revenue for the state and that the number of iGaming coming out of the market will continue to increase as the market expands gradually.

In October 2022, AGCO and iGO set a deadline for brands to transition to legal areas to stop offshore operators from operating in the provinces. The new rules went into effect on October 31, 2022 and required operators to stop illegal activities. Those who did not comply with the risk of obtaining a local license in the future refused.

In an email discussion starting this week, iGO promised to keep operators on board leading players into regulated areas. The organization also says its online and social media efforts promote benefits and protection for players by encouraging them to play only on regulated sites and avoid unregulated and off-the-shelf offerings where player protection is not a priority.

In January 2023, iGaming Ontario also released accounting figures for the market’s third-quarter operations. From October 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, online brands in the province generated an incredible total betting handle of C$11.53 billion. This was C$457 million in gaming revenue.
