Major League Baseball (MLB) superstar Shohei Ohtani, 30, of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been named Player of the Week for the eighth time in his career.
Ohtani and Brent Rooker (Oakland Athletics) were named the National League (NL) and American League (AL) Player of the Week, respectively, MLB.com announced on Sunday.
In five games between April 30 and May 6, Ohtani batted .524 (11-for-21) with three home runs and seven RBIs. His OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging percentage) reached 1.536 during that stretch.
He was particularly impressive against the Atlanta Braves on June 6, 안전놀이터 going 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs.
After last week’s blowout, Ohtani is now tied for first in the MLB in batting average (.364), first in OPS (1.111), and tied for first in home runs (10).
This is the eighth time in his career that Ohtani has been named Player of the Week.
It is the first time since signing a massive 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers last December. His previous seven honors came while playing for the Los Angeles Angels of the AL.
Ohtani is the third Japanese player to win Player of the Week honors in both leagues, joining Hideo Nomo and Ichiro Suzuki.
