Andrew Nicholson (34, 206 cm) called acting head coach Kang Hyuk “absolutely amazing.”
Daegu KOGAS won 81-70 against Anyang Jungkwanjang of the 2023-2024 Korean Basketball League at Daegu Gymnasium on Thursday. The win snapped a three-game home losing streak.
Nicholson, who recorded a double-double with 33 points and 10 rebounds, said after the game, “It was a team win. We came together in the second half and made the adjustments that coach told us to make, and we got a valuable win.”
Nicholson, who picked up a technical foul for colliding with a referee late in the first quarter, said, “Referees are part of the game. “There were a couple of calls today (April 4) where there was a difference of opinion,” said Nicholson, “but it shouldn’t affect the game. I think it’s basic to control your mind to be professional at all times. Although there was a difference of opinion, I focused on the game with the idea that I had to do the right thing,” he said about the situation and his feelings.
Nicholson, who was a part of GAS’s first year, has seen a lot of changes this season.
“Personally, I thought I needed to work on my defense a little bit more. As I get older, my offensive power may decrease, so I have a mindset to pay attention to defense to contribute to the team.” “As a team, the coach gives good defensive strategies at the right time, and the whole team tries to do it together, which is the difference from two years ago,” he said.
Nicholson, who has been working with new head coach Kang Hyuk this season, called him “absolutely amazing,” adding, “He talks to the players and makes plays at the right time. He plays the game from the players’ point of view – what they’re thinking, what they’re looking for. I think he’s going to be one of the best coaches in the KBL in the future because of the way he runs the game.”
