NC continued its four-game winning streak thanks to the one-man show of foreign batter Jason Martin. NC won 7-5 against Hanwha at Daejeon Stadium on the 22nd. With the victory, he enjoyed the joy of winning four consecutive games since the match against Lotte in Changwon on the 12th.
Martin’s two home runs led to both the first run and the come-from-behind score. Martin, who started as the fourth center fielder, hit Hanwha starter Felix Peña’s fastball in the second inning and crossed the right fence.
However, NC allowed the reversal right after scoring the first run. In the third inning, NC starter Taylor Widener allowed Lee Jin-young to turn the game around 1-2 with an RBI double and a timely hit to the right by Kim In-hwan. And in the fourth inning, Jung Eun-won lost a solo home run.
The two teams fought back and forth afterwards. In the top of the sixth inning, NC made the game back to square one with Park Kun-woo’s two-run timely hit and ran away with an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning.
However, in the bottom of the seventh inning with no outs and a full base, Hanwha Noh Si-hwan’s double play leading to shortstop, second baseman, and first baseman Lee Do-yoon homered and brought the game back to square one. And in the eighth inning, Hanwha’s victory seemed certain as NC catcher Ahn Jung-yeol’s foil scored one more point.
However, NC held on until the ninth inning. After one out, Son Ah-seop succeeded in getting on base with a right-handed hit and advanced to second base when Park Min-woo grounded out to first base. Park Kun-woo hit a right-handed hit, creating a chance for two outs and runners on first and third bases. Martin hit Park Sang-won’s third forkball and crossed the right fence. NC, which took a 7-5 lead, secured a two-point gap with closer Lee Yong-chan.
After starting pitcher Widener was substituted early with three runs in four innings, NC led the bullpen to Cho Min-seok (1 inning without losing a point), Ha Joon-young (1 inning without losing a point), Kim Si-hoon (0.2 innings), Ryu Jin-wook (1 inning without losing a point) and Lee Yong-chan (1.1 innings without losing a point).
Martin swept four RBIs with two home runs. Son Ah-seop, Park Kun-woo, and Kwon Hee-dong recorded two hits and made a multi-hit.
