A veteran signing is the way to go.
“Manchester United are considering the signing of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (34, Bayern Munich) as an immediate solution to bolster their attacking ranks this winter,” the British outlet CutOffside reported on Thursday.
United’s form this season has been disappointing. After 20 games in the Premier League, they have 10 wins, one draw, and nine losses, leaving them in eighth place with 31 points.
In European competition, the Red Devils packed their bags early. The Red Devils were eliminated from the Champions League Group A after a disastrous six-game campaign with one win, one draw, and four losses.
A lack of goals was the biggest problem. United scored just 22 goals in 20 league games. In the entire league, only relegated Sheffield United and Burnley have scored fewer goals than United.
The strikers are not immune to the blame. Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund, the two main strikers, have only scored three and six goals respectively this season.
Legendary Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes said on air, “United have a big problem. I think scoring goals is their biggest problem,” he said.
“It often happens in a season that one or two strikers lose confidence and don’t score, but at United, it’s all the strikers. None of them are scoring goals.”
New signings have been suggested as a solution. According to the report, United are considering bringing in Choupo Moting on a short-term loan in the winter transfer window.
Choupo-Moting is known as an experienced striker. He has extensive experience at Schalke, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Munich. He also proved himself in the Premier League with Stoke City.
However, he”s not happy in Munich. Choupo-Moting has started just five games in all competitions this season. It’s not unlikely that he would consider a move to get more playing time.
This would be a good signing for United. As CutOffside points out, “Choupo-Moting would be a practical and affordable option for United as they look to improve their attacking line.”
