
Anyang KGC defeated the youthful Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) National B Team in the 42nd William Jones Cup to extend its winning streak to four games.
KGC, the reigning KBL champions for the 2022-2023 season, defeated the Chinese Taipei B team 99-97 in Game 7 of the tournament today (Nov. 19) at Heping Gymnasium in Taipei, Taiwan. KGC is now 6-1 with a final game against the Chinese Taipei National A team tomorrow. KGC’s only loss in the tournament came against the United States.
‘Hero of the Japanese War’ shines in Q1 Ko Chan-hyuk shined in the first quarter. Playing just 7:22 minutes in the first quarter, Ko single-handedly led the team with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers (6 attempts, 66.7% success rate).
After ending the first quarter with a 32-30 lead, KGC continued the scoring duel in the second quarter. Duvon Maxwell, Jung Jun-won, and Jung Hyo-geun scored evenly to end the second quarter 54-50.
In the back-and-forth third quarter, it was Jung Hyo-geun who was the star of the show. Jung hit all three of his three-pointers midway through the third quarter to lead the offense. Maxwell also helped extend the lead with a slam dunk.
In the fourth quarter, Park Ji-hoon, Jung Jun-won, and Jung Hyo-geun took turns scoring to make it 94-84 with 3:54 left in the game. With 17 seconds left in the game, the score was 99-91, effectively sealing the win.
Despite this, the young Taiwanese players didn’t give up, hitting back-to-back three-pointers with 14 and three seconds left in the game to pull within two points. In the process, KGC missed four free throws in a row to the one-sided boos of the Taiwanese home crowd, giving them a chance to make a comeback.
However, Chinese Taipei’s final 바카라사이트 attempt missed, and KGC held on for the win. Ko Chan-hyuk and Maxwell combined for 23 points, while Jung Jun-won (19), Jung Hyo-geun (17), and Park Ji-hoon (11) led the offense.
Currently, KGC is not at 100% strength – existing foreign player Omari Spellman is on international duty with the Lebanese national team, and Daryl Monroe hasn’t joined the team yet, so they’re bringing in two foreign players – Maxwell and Brian Griffin – on short-term contracts for this tournament only.
