China was Singapore’s largest single visitor destination in July, and the city-state’s monthly tally of mainland Chinese tourists more than doubled compared to June. That’s according to visitor statistics updated by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) on Wednesday.
Singapore saw 231,330 visitor arrivals from China in July, up 104.2 percent from 113,290 recorded in June. Indonesia was the second-highest market, offering 229,890 visitor arrivals in July.
As of July, the average number of stays for visitors from China was 4.78 days. The average number of stays for all international visitors was 3.82 days.
Singapore’s total visitor arrivals amounted to about 1.42 million in July, up 95.3 percent year-on-year and 25.7 percent sequentially. Singapore’s total visitor arrivals in the first seven months of the year were about 7.7 million, up 245.3 percent year-on-year, according to the July tally.
Indonesia (1.35 million), China (655,520), India (628,340), Malaysia (625,980), and Australia (611,350) were the most important source markets for visitor arrivals to Singapore in the first seven months of this year, according to the latest data from the Tourism Authority.
Singapore is home to Resorts World Sentosa, run by Genting Singapore Ltd., and a casino resort called Marina Bay Sands, run by Las Vegas Sands Corp. The latter also controls Sands China Ltd., which is part of six operators in the Macau casino market.
Maybank Investment Bank Bhd said in a note on Genting Singapore in July that only 20% of Chinese visitors to Singapore entered the country in the first five months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2019.
