Bears ‘leaning toward’ trading No. 1 pick in upcoming NFL Draft

Posted on February 28, 2023February 28, 2023

The Chicago Bears have been contacted by several teams to negotiate the first peak in this year’s NFL draft, and Chicago is said to be “explaining” to the transfer of the peak, ESPN sources said.

The Bears have the best choice in a year when eight to 12 teams could try to change around the quarterback,

Since the AFL/NFL merger in 1967, peak No. 1 was exchanged 12 times before the start of the project. The last time was in 2016, when the Los Angeles Rams went from No. 15 to No. 1 two weeks before selecting quarterback Jared Goff from Cal. It was only the second time in the last 22 years that peak No. 1 changed hands before the draft (the Falcons of Atlanta went from No 2 to writing Michael Vick for the first time in 2001).

Bears’ general manager, Ryan Poles, has kept a steady hand in his approach to improving the Bears’ roster after the team went 3-14 last season. In January, he reaffirmed his commitment to the Justin Fields quarterback, which the Bears drafted the number 11 global in 2021, and said he would have to be eliminated in order to develop a quarterback perspective in April. Alabama’s Bryce Young is expected to be the first quarterback taken.

“We have flexibility where, if there are opportunities, if we can turn that into a lot of players who come and help us, we can do that,” said General Manager Ryan Poles. “If you’re getting in position or being really selective with certain people, we can do that, too. I know my expectation, our expectation, is that we change the needle to be more successful. We can win some of those close games and bring in guys who can impact this football team.”

The Bears are likely to wait their time and wait until the free agency goes public before doing a deal. Derek Carr and Jimmy Garoppolo lead a group of veteran free agents in the quarterback position.

Once the problem is solved through a free agency, along with any potential blockchain operation at the post, the market for the Bears’ best choice will coexist and serious negotiations can be initiated.
