“Curveball, I can’t hit it even if you teach me and throw it”
“Korean Monster” Ryu Hyun-jin (36-Hanwha Eagles) successfully completed his first preliminary practice since returning from the disabled list.
Ryu threw a live pitch during spring training at the Gochinda Stadium in Okinawa, Japan, on Feb. 2. Live pitching is when batters step up to the plate to practice batting practice under real-life conditions. Defenders are also deployed.
Live pitching is a practice before a player is called up to the field. Ryu showed that he’s ready to pitch in a full game.
He was originally scheduled to pitch live the day before, but it was postponed due to rain. If he didn’t pitch today, he would not be able to pitch in the opening game due to the schedule. However, he threw a normal workout today, giving him a green light to start on Opening Day.
Ryu threw a total of 65 pitches. According to Hanwha, he utilized all of his pitches, including a fastball, curveball, cut fastball, slider, and changeup. His fastball topped out at 139 mph.
He didn’t show much velocity, but that shouldn’t be a problem since he’s no longer a pitcher who relies on velocity to win games.
According to the organization, his velocity wasn’t high, but his pitches were intimidating enough to break two bats.
Ryu faced four batters on the day. He faced Hanwha’s starting catcher Choi Jae-hoon for the first time. It was a solid outing, with the exception of a pitch to Lee Sang-hyeok that was hit by a pitch.
Ryu has pitched out of the bullpen twice since joining the Okinawa camp. He threw 45 pitches on the 23rd, his first day in camp, and then 60 pitches on the 26th.
He is not expected to pitch any more games in Okinawa.
Hanwha will return home from spring training on April 4 and begin exhibition games on April 9. Ryu is expected to pitch against the Blue and White before the exhibition games and then make one appearance in the exhibition games. Barring rain, he will start the opener against LG, a team he dominated during his time in Korea.
Hanwha manager Choi Won-ho said, “He’s not 100 percent yet, but he’s throwing enough strikes. He’s pitching in a way that makes you think he’s back. He’s training 바카라사이트 normally and his schedule is going well. At this pace, he shouldn’t have any problems pitching on Opening Day.”
Ryu’s best pitch is his changeup. His changeup is what allows him to overpower his opponents even if he doesn’t have a fastball.
But his curveball has become another weapon in the major leagues, and he has the sharpest and fastest changeup of anyone in the game.
In an interview with the Hanwha Eagles’ official YouTube channel, Eagles TV, Jang Kyu-hyun said, “The curveball was the most impressive. It was a pitch I didn’t expect to hit. Usually, you can prepare for a curveball when you first see it and start swinging, but Ryu’s curve was different. I started attacking it at the first pitch and it was right on the catcher’s mitt. He doesn’t have a lot of speed, but I think it’s because he has a good angle and good speed at the moment he turns. It was amazing. I realized that major league water is different,” he said.
