Jeju Dream Tower Resort on Jeju Island has 500 people, 400 of whom are foreigner-only casinos in the complex (pictured), and 100 are looking for additional personnel to operate the hotel.
The resort now has 2,200 employees, 600 of whom work in the casino department. The recruitment drive will bring the total workforce to 2,700.
The hiring process began on Sunday (13 August), resort operator Lotte Tourism Development said in a statement shared with GGRAsia.
Responding to inquiries in an email to GGRAsia on Tuesday, the company added that the recruitment effort was driven by Beijing’s recent decision to allow its citizens to re-engage in group tour trips to South Korea and other destinations in the region, as well as to the site. Those deals were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Resort officials say the number of flights currently between Jeju and China is about 57% of pre-pandemic deals. Jeju Dream Tower management expects flight connections to improve soon in line with China’s policy actions.
Jeju Dream Tower’s July sales at its foreign-only casinos were its highest monthly since the gaming facility opened in June 2021. Lotte Tours submitted the July figures to the Korea Exchange but did not provide details on the casino’s foreign customers’ origin.
The total number of Chinese travelers on the Jeju market stood at 35,907 in June, up 5,617.7% year-on-year from 628 in June 2022, when China was still enforcing outbound and inbound travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, data from the Jeju Tourism Organization showed. That was more than half of Jeju’s tally of foreign arrivals in June.
The total number of foreign travelers to Jeju stood at 64,019 in June this year, up 1,038.7% from 5,622 in June 2022.
