Kim Dan-bi (34, 180 cm) was named MVP of the championship game for the second consecutive year.
Asan Woori Bank’s Kim finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Cheongju KB Stars in Game 4 of the Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball Championship at Asan Sunshin Gymnasium on Tuesday. She also added four steals and five blocked shots, making her presence felt on both sides of the ball. Woori Bank, led by Kim Dan-bi, went on to win the championship with a 78-72 victory.
“The players are still in shock. When it was over, we were like, ‘Is this real? I’m glad we were able to win because we trained so hard. I want to thank all the players and thank the fans for their support,” she concluded.
In the series, Kim averaged an incredible 21.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 2.3 steals in four games. The MVP of the championship game was well deserved. This is the second consecutive year he has been honored as the MVP of the Finals after last season,
“When I first came to Woori Bank, I thought I would only get it once, but I’m so grateful that I got it twice. I thought I would never get an MVP in my life, but I got it twice. I want to say thank you to the people around me and my teammates for making my basketball life happy.” Kim said.
Kim Dan-bi’s contributions were not only on the court, but also on defense. She blocked KB Stars center Park Ji-soo with her whole body. She wasn’t in complete control, but she did her best, and Woori Bank was able to shut down Park and celebrate the victory.
Kim Dan-bi said, “It was really hard. When you’re shorter, you have to jump two or three more steps. In fact, I held on with my strength in one spot, but the players who rotated outside went all around the court. It was a hard championship match for all the players, not just me,” she reflected.
“I want to apologize to (Park) Ji-soo, I hit her too hard and fought with her. I have no emotions at all. Jisoo is a player who will go higher in the future. Just because 토토 his team lost doesn’t mean he lost. I will do my best to prepare for her to go to a higher place next season,” he said.
Kim’s second consecutive MVP award is the fifth in WKBL history. She can now challenge for the MVP honor for the third consecutive season. Kim’s teammate Park Hye-jin is the only other player in WKBL history to be named MVP for three consecutive seasons.
“I don’t think I can do it (laughs). As soon as I hugged the coach after winning the championship, I said, ‘Stop winning, I can’t do it. I don’t want to win for a while after being MVP of three consecutive championships. It was too hard,” she laughed.
